Harwood Fishing
Deal With Your Tackle
Many of you are aware of the suspected decrease of fish. This can be for many reasons, but personally, I put it down to litter and fishermen who discard refuse into our waters. Some do this because they are just inconsiderate, others do it because they are unprepared and forgot to bring bags.
THIS HAS TO STOP NOW!
Do Your Bit
In supporting my idea of this 'campaign', you can help save our coastline and save you money.
The combination of litter and discarded fishing line is a lethal concept. The fishing line practically bundles the rubbish into one huge ball and snags on rocky outcrops or pier structures. For those fishing, if you get caught in this there is only three ways out.
A) Keep trying to free yourself and snap your line loosing a fair amount of expensive tackle and risk breaking your rod.
B) Keep trying to free yourself and bring in the tackle trap all the way and concentrate about freeing your tackle.
C) Cut your line and replace what you lost.
All of these are time consuming and can be very expensive. Even when you do cut your line, your tackle then builds up the trap making it larger and more dominating among the sea bed potentially suffocated curious sea life.
This is one reason why I have decided to launch this campaign. I don't work and cant afford to keep replacing tackle. Every time I go fishing, without fail, I land a plastic bag or some other foreign object from the depths of the sea. My hooks get bent, blunt and are soon completely useless, After a month of wear and tear I have to re-tie the rig and hope for the best.
Showing Others
I have created a poster of which I shall preserve in a plastic wallet and secure to the hood of my tackle bag, on show for other anglers who happen to be fishing where I am. Hopefully they will get the idea that the sea is not a landfill site.
If you feel that you would like to help me in cleaning our coastline and improving fishing for all, feel free to print out the poster below (A4 size) and show your local spots how to respect the sea.
Current Situation
I have already sent a comment to my local council asking for more bins to be placed around popular fishing spots so that our sea life can be protected. Understanding that it wont solve our problem completly, I still need your help in promoting the 'Deal With Your Tackle' campaign.
Many people are already using the posters to promote the campaign. Others are sending my website round to friends and family.
I have several people helping me out with so much more than what I could have asked for from many other coasts, and I thank them greatly.
I will also be getting local schools involved in understanding the dangers they pose when fishing/beach walking when throwing rubbish into the sea hoping that, if they know when younger, they wont do it with their parents. In fact the schools seem delighted to help and may be a great step in getting the word about.
I shall also be asking the tackle shops to show my posters and help the campaign as this targets ALL anglers.
